Problems we can help with – your tyres

Repairing a flat tyre yourself

Repairing a flat tyre yourself

Repairing the tyre

If you get a slow puncture and have no spare wheel, you can attempt to repair a tyre using a sealant. The tyre can only be repaired if the puncture is in the central ¾ of the tyre. If your tyre is damaged to the sidewall, you need to get towed to the nearest tyre specialist to replace the tyre as it is not possible to fix it.

Tyre repair kit

Many new cars do not come with a spare tyre. An emergency tyre repair kit can be purchased in most good motoring shops. It consists of a sealant and a compressor to inflate a flat tyre. The repair cannot be considered permanent and you should seek professional help as soon as possible to either repair the tyre or to buy a new one.

Temporary or permanent?

Tyre repair sealant should not be used as a permanent solution for a punctured tyre. This should only be used in an emergency to get you to the tyre specialist or a garage, where the tyre can be repaired or replaced. Some sealants can also damage the tyre and prevent it from being repaired in the future so if you think you need one, chose one that is water soluble.
